Admission requirements
You must meet certain requirements in order to start a bachelor degree programme, master degree programme or certificate programme at FERNFH. Details on the requirements are presented below:
Admission to the Bachelor's degree programme
You must fulfill one of the following requirements to be admitted to a Bachelor's degree programme at FERNFH:
- The general university entrance qualification, proven by
- an Austrian school-leaving certificate or a certificate of the vocational matriculation examination
- a corresponding university entrance qualification certificate
- a foreign certificate that is equivalent to one of these Austrian certificates
- a certificate of completion of at least three years of study at a recognized domestic or foreign post-secondary educational institution
OR
A relevant professional qualification is either a completed apprenticeship in a profession relevant to the subject or the completion of at least three years of vocational secondary school. The "relevance" is decided on a case-by-case basis as part of the admission procedure.
In the case of relevant professional qualifications, proof of additional knowledge is required:
- Proof of knowledge of the English language:
- at the "Living Foreign Languages 2" level as part of a university entrance qualification examination or
- a certificate at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages or
- Cambridge Certificate "BEC Vantage" or "First Certificate in English" (FCE) or
- TOEFL test (IBT 83 / CBT 220 / PBT 560) or
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS, academic module, band score 6.0)
- A qualification course for proof of English language skills at "Living Foreign Language 2" level can be found on our Online Campus.
- Proof of knowledge of maths at "Mathematics 1" level - You can find a free preparation course for the "Mathematics 1" qualification exam on our Online Campus.
If additional examinations are required, these can also be taken directly on the degree programme - after successful completion of the admission procedure - as part of free qualification examinations. More about studying without a general qualification for university entrance...

BA in Aging Services Management
Completed apprenticeships in the following fields are considered relevant to the profession:
- Health and personal care
- Office, administration, organisation
- Electrical engineering, electronics and information technology
or a qualification from one of the following vocational secondary schools:
- Healthcare schools and academies
- Secondary schools for social professions
- Secondary commercial schools
- Secondary schools for economic professions
- Vocational schools for rural home economics
- Vocational and technical colleges: Technical school for construction technology, technical school for construction technology and construction industry, technical school for electronics, technical school for electrical engineering, technical school for information technology, technical school for computer and communication technology
BA in Business Administration and Psychology
Completed apprenticeships from the following specialist areas are considered to be subject-specific:
- Office, administration, organisation
- trade
or graduation from one of the following vocational secondary schools:
- commercial college
- Ski trade school
- School for data processing clerks
- Technical-commercial college
- Vocational school for economic professions
- Vocational school for tourism professions (hotel management school, tourism management school etc.)
- Technical school for agricultural professions
BA in Business Informatics
Completed apprenticeships in the following specialist areas are considered relevant:
- Office, administration, organisation
- Electrical engineering, electronics and information technology
- trade
or a qualification from one of the following vocational secondary schools:
- Technical colleges specialising in electrical engineering and electronics
- Secondary commercial schools
- Secondary schools for business professions
Admission to the Master's degree programme
You must fulfill one of the following requirements to be admitted to a Master's degree programme at FERNFH:
In order to be able to complete an advanced Master's degree programme at FERNFH, you must have completed a Bachelor's degree in a relevant subject. The fulfilment of the admission requirements is checked and approved by the programme director on a case-by-case basis.
MA in Business Administration and Psychology
Relevant Bachelor's degree programmes for the MA in Business Administration and Psychology are Bachelor's degree programmes in the field of social sciences, economics and psychology.
In addition, the following minimum level is required in the core subjects of economics and psychology:
- 15 ECTS from the areas of "General Business Administration/Human Resources/Leadership/Organisation/Strategic Management/Corporate Management/Finance/Accounting/Marketing Management"
- 15 ECTS from the areas of "Business Psychology/Personal Psychology/General Psychology/Social Psychology/Personality Psychology/Psychological Diagnostics"
- 4 ECTS from the areas of "Empirical Social Research & Statistics"
MA in Information Technology
The relevant Bachelor's degree programme for the Master's degree programme in Information Technology is the completed Bachelor's degree programme in Business Informatics.
The Bachelor's degree for admission to the Master's degree programme in Information Technology can be submitted later.
OR
In order to be able to complete an advanced Master's degree programme at FERNFH, you must have completed an equivalent degree programme at a recognized domestic or foreign post-secondary educational institution with a total of 180 ECTS credits.
Equivalent degrees from a recognized domestic or foreign post-secondary educational institution are considered to be degrees with a subject-related focus that were obtained at an educational institution for which the admission requirement is a general university entrance qualification and which is recognized as a post-secondary educational institution under the legislation of the country in which it is based.
In addition, a subject-specific level is required for the MA in Business Administration and Psychology:
- 15 ECTS from the areas of "General Business Administration/Human Resources/Leadership/Organisation/Strategic Management/Corporate Management/Finance/Accounting/Marketing Management"
- 15 ECTS from the areas of "Business Psychology/Personal Psychology/General Psychology/Social Psychology/Personality Psychology/Psychological Diagnostics
- 4 ECTS from the areas of "Empirical Social Research & Statistics"

Admission to executive education
The admission requirements for the continuing education programmes vary depending on the course. You must fulfil the following requirements for admission:
To be admitted to the Marketing Essentials course, applicants must fulfil the following requirements:
- General university entrance qualification (according to § 64 para. 1 UG)
OR
- alternatively a relevant professional activity plus qualification examination in English at BC100 level
To be admitted to the Empathic Design & Innovation course, applicants must fulfil the following requirements:
- General university entrance qualification (according to § 64 para. 1 UG).
To be admitted to the certificate programme Evaluation in the Health, Social and Education Sector, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- An internationally recognised national or foreign academic degree* (at least equivalent to a bachelor’s degree)
The subject relevance refers to the completion of teaching content on quantitative and/or qualitative methods covering at least 3 ECTS.
OR
- Higher education entrance qualification PLUS relevant work experience (at least 3 years)
The leader of certificate programme decides on the suitability and relevance of the professional experience.
Access to the admissions procedure may also be granted in individual cases if proof of one of the two options mentioned cannot yet be provided in full at this point in time, but it is foreseeable that the conditions for admission will be fulfilled at the time the certificate programme for executive education begins.
Please note: Compliance with the admission requirements is checked and approved by the head of the certificate programme on a case-by-case basis.
